Pre-March 2001 Vehicles
Tax is based on engine size only. Vehicles with engines under 1,549cc pay £200/year, while those with engines of 1,549cc or above pay £325/year.
March 2001 – March 2017 Vehicles
Tax is based on CO2 emissions, ranging from Band A (0–100g/km, £0) to Band M (over 255g/km, £735).

A first-year rate based on CO2 emissions (£0–£2,745) applies at registration. After that, standard annual rates apply: £190 for petrol/diesel, £180 for hybrids, and £195 for electric vehicles (from April 2025). Cars with a list price over £40,000 pay an additional £425/year Expensive Car Supplement for years 2–6.
